It was fabulous hot and sunny weather for Dawley Day as many of the Cinderloo1821 volunteers and visitors headed down to Dawley Park to the stall set up by Pete Jackson, Nobby Neat and Dennis Athersmith. We had some large displays of the 1902 O.S map of the Dawley urban district with images of old Dawley provided by Dennis via his Dawley Memories facebook page. This triggered some great memories and stories of old Dawley as people tried to identify images and locate old pubs, pits and other features on the map.
Musicians Chris Elliott and Caitlin Jones joined us from Lichfield to play two great sets, one on the band stand in the High Street and the second in the Elephant and Castle pub. Their song “Lets get together” about the Cinderloo Uprising will feature in their recently recorded album “Carry me home”, soon to be released.
In the afternoon, members met up with Louise Townsend and Neil Gore from Townsend Theatre Productions to discuss ideas for events to commemorate the Cinderloo Bicentenary for May 2021. Things are beginning to shape up and we hope to announce some initial plans soon and invite community groups to work with us and Townsend Theatre.
Neil rounded off the afternoon with an impromptu song.
